TTIGF to discuss Blockchain, Online Gender Activism and Digital Financial Services

1 Mins read

The second Trinidad and Tobago Internet Governance Forum (TTIGF) will be held on Friday 26th January, 2018 at the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Registration is free.

The theme this year, in keeping with the International Internet Governance Forum, is “Shape Your Digital Future”. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a global forum for multistakeholder dialogue on public policy issues related to key elements of Internet Governance.

The sessions at the 2018 TTIGF  will focus on Digital Financial Services, Online Gender Activism and Blockchain. These topics were chosen from suggestions made by the local community.

Blockchain, or Distributed Ledger Technology, will focus on the importance of this technology, its applications, potential, and limits.   Panelists will discuss the potential impact, both positive and negative,  on our society as a whole.

Online Gender Activism will focus on the ways that the Internet is being used by local, regional and international activists to involve people in their campaigns, to share stories, to fundraise, and support their work in many other ways. Discussants will include local and international gender activists, who will share their experiences.

Digital Financial Services (DFS) will focus on the current state of play in Trinidad and Tobago, what other services can be provided and how DFS can facilitate digital inclusion.

Following on from the principles of the IGF, an open forum will follow where all stakeholders, including online participants, can share comments, questions, solutions and best practices on Internet Governance locally, regionally and globally.

TTIGF 2018 is being hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Multistakeholder Advisory Group (TTMAG), in partnership with the following organisations…

  • AVIT Support Ltd.

  • Internet Governance Forum Support Association (IGFSA)

  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – Trinidad and Tobago Section

  • International Telecommunications Union

  • Internet Society (ISOC) – Trinidad and Tobago Chapter

  • Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society (TTCS)

  • Trinidad and Tobago Network Information Centre (TTNIC)

Free registration is available online via the TTIGF website. In-person seats are limited, but the event will also have full online participation. Registrants for online participation will receive the event link via email.

Last year’s event received excellent reviews from participants both local and international.  This year’s’ promises to be even better. The event is free of charge.

TTMAG “advises” whom? It’s unclear in the write up.

And who are the panelists. That information is also missing.
