TTCSIRT Manager passes

Angus Smith, Manager of the TT Cyber Security Incident Response Team has passed according to a note posted on the TTCSIRT website.

Two months ago, Mr Smith posted the following question to his LinkedIn page: “In the event of a breach of personal information/trade secrets/critical infrastructure information what is the role of the Office of the Information Commissioner? How can this office to ensure accountability, transparency and compliance. In the absence of this and the standards to which entities can be held accountable, the Wild Wild West will prevail.”

The TTCSIRT statement reads as follows…

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Angus Smith, a remarkable individual and the dedicated leader of the Trinidad and Tobago Cyber Security Incident Response Team (TT-CSIRT). Angus was not just a colleague but a beacon of strength, compassion, and expertise in the cybersecurity community.

Angus exemplified unwavering commitment, often working beyond the regular hours to ensure the safety and security of our digital landscape. His leadership went beyond professional duties as he fostered a sense of family within the TT-CSIRT, ensuring his team’s well-being and offering support, even in the face of his own challenges.

In the professional arena, Angus was a visionary, leading the TT-CSIRT since its inception and playing a pivotal role in shaping the national cyber strategy of Trinidad and Tobago. His legacy includes the establishment of crucial cybersecurity initiatives, from incident response to vulnerability assessments, penetrating testing, security awareness, and the development of comprehensive policies and frameworks.
