Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (TSTT) secured four major awards at the 2024 Telecommunications and Broadcasting Industry (TBI) Awards, hosted by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT). These accolades underscore TSTT’s industry leadership and commitment to innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.

Demonstrating excellence in innovation and corporate responsibility, TSTT secured four coveted awards, reinforcing its position as a leader in the telecommunications sector:

  • Connect the Unconnected Award
  • Social Contribution Award
  • Sustainability Award
  • Technological Disruptor Award

A Milestone in Innovation and Responsibility

The TBI Awards 2024 marked TATT’s 20th anniversary, with this year’s theme, Regulating for a Sustainable Digital Society, celebrating the contributions of industry stakeholders toward building a sustainable future. Competing across six eligible categories and submitting nominations for five, TSTT’s innovative projects and initiatives stood out, earning it the top spot in four major categories.

TSTT CEO Kent Western expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, stating: “These awards are a testament to the hard work, ingenuity, and dedication of our team at TSTT. From connecting the underserved to pioneering sustainable and socially impactful initiatives, we are shaping a future where technology empowers every citizen of Trinidad and Tobago. This recognition motivates us to continue striving for excellence,” added Mr. Western. “We are proud to lead the way in creating a connected and sustainable digital future for Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Winning Initiatives

Connect the Unconnected Award: TSTT’s innovative deployment of mobile Wi-Fi solutions on PTSC buses has transformed in-transit connectivity. Passengers can now enjoy high-speed internet while commuting, enhancing productivity and access to digital resources.

Social Contribution Award: The Free Online Mathematics Revision Program, launched in partnership with Restore A Sense of I Can (RSC) during the COVID-19 pandemic, provided over 20,000 students with access to essential CSEC mathematics resources. This initiative exemplifies TSTT’s commitment to empowering the next generation through education.

Sustainability Award: TSTT’s solar-powered mobile network on Chacachacare Island (off the coast of Trinidad’s western peninsula) demonstrates its dedication to eco-friendly solutions. By delivering seamless 4G LTE coverage to remote areas while preserving the island’s pristine ecosystem, TSTT showcased its ability to blend technological advancement with environmental stewardship.

Technological Disruptor Award: Through its Emerging Services and Innovation (ES&I) division, TSTT’s fintech ecosystem has revolutionized financial processes for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. By integrating secure digital payment systems and promoting cashless transactions, this initiative has positioned TSTT as a key enabler of the nation’s digital transformation and will foster financial inclusion for citizens.

As the telecommunications landscape evolves, TSTT remains dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions that address the needs of its customers while contributing to national development. With these awards, TSTT solidifies its position as a trusted partner in shaping our country’s digital journey.
