Digicel announces 100K customers for Play

1 Mins read

Digicel Play announced today that it has reached the 100,000 customer milestone across its markets in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago – a year after the service was first launched in Jamaica.

This record-breaking growth shows the service is continuing to go from strength to strength, reinforcing its position of providing the ultimate in-home entertainment through the only 100% fibre-powered network in the Caribbean.

Through this revolutionary technology, Digicel’s customers are now benefiting from the fastest Fibre to the Home service which delivers an online, digital voice and unparalleled entertainment experience to every room in the home regardless of weather conditions.

“This is a very important milestone for us and we are thankful to our customers and business partners for helping us achieve it,” said John Suranyi, Group CEO for Digicel Play, Caribbean and Central America. “The feedback we have been getting has been very encouraging and our team is working hard to fulfil the growing demand from other customers who also want to enjoy the world standard service that we provide.”

In less than one year of launching, Digicel Play has celebrated a number of other major milestones, including successfully delivering fibre speeds of 100,000Mbs (100Gbps) in a real environment in Barbados – a first for the Caribbean. For perspective, there are over 1 billion websites on the internet today which, using this 100Gbps technology, could be downloaded in just over a week.

Only a few months prior, Digicel also successfully tested 10,000Gbps in Jamaica. And in addition to securing an enviable line-up of exclusive content deals with renowned global network providers, Digicel Play also launched its Play Go streaming service earlier this year – giving sports fans and TV lovers even more options in how they can view their favourite programmes.

“It’s all about growing our offerings and giving customers access to superfast broadband internet speeds. Thanks and great job to our amazing teams across the region who continue to go above and beyond to ensure that more and more customers have access to Digicel Play in their homes and on their mobile devices.”
