On October 9. 2023, Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) experienced a cyber-attack that resulted in the unauthorized access of certain customer data, which was subsequently placed on the ‘dark web.

We fully understand and empathize with the fact that this incident, and the subsequent information carried in the media, have raised concerns not only with us at TSTT but also among our valued customers.

We acknowledge that in our fervent effort to promptly address the cyber security issue, there were areas where we could have improved our communication with you and for that. we offer our sincere apology.

We note that immediately upon our discovering and identifying the problem, we took the following remedial steps:

  •  We engaged the services of internationally reputable cyber security experts, who promptly worked to minimize vulnerabilities by isolating affected systems and applications. These applications were subsequently quarantined, rebuilt, and reintegrated into production, following established policies and procedures.
  •  We also sought expert advice on the implementation of additional security measures and protocols. Many of these recommendations have already been put into practice, and we are continually investing in enhancing our IT systems and processes to mitigate the risk of a recurrence.

Our own professional investigation into the attack is ongoing, and will be reported on as soon as fully completed. Simultaneously however, we advise our customers and the broader public to maintain their vigilance and take all necessary precautions to protect their personal data.

We deeply value the trust you have placed in us to safeguard your data, and it is for that reason our cyber-security experts are diligently investigating the breach and taking the appropriate action.

Be assured that we have also embarked on various undertakings to enhance the content and quality of the TSTT communications with all our valued stakeholders, and to ensure that our responses will be increasingly timely. forthright, and reassuring.
