In 2020, Huawei Technologies (T&T) Limited donated 100 Huawei T5 tablets directly to schools in Trinidad and Tobago, under the Ministry of Education’s Adopt-a-School Programme, in response to the Government’s efforts to ensure that children were well-equipped for online learning during the pandemic.

On Friday 20th August, 2021, via the Adopt-a-School Programme, Huawei made good on its promise to continue to introduce new technology to schools in Trinidad and Tobago.

At a media launch at the San Juan North Government Secondary School, 10 Huawei IdeaHub Boards were handed over to the T&T Minister of Education, Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly by Huawei T&T’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jeff Jin.

At the handover of the IdeaHub Boards, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Jin commented, “we all need new digital tools to help us work together remotely. The Huawei IdeaHub Boards will help lessen the challenges to learning and teaching online. They also allow for more face-to-face communication which is key to teaching and learning”.

Also crediting its strategic partner, the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), Mr Jin noted, “they are our partner in making the IdeaHub available to this country not just for education but also for business and Government use”.

“The inclusion of smart devices and smart technology in education is directly consistent with the Government’s ICT Blueprint to transform the nation into a dynamic, sustainable and prosperous future by harnessing the power of technology”, stated Minister Gadsby-Dolly as she accepted the Boards.

Smart Learning is now at the fingertips of teachers across the country thanks to our partner in e-education, Huawei Technologies, noted the Minister.

Huawei Technologies (T&T) Limited continues to demonstrate its commitment to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. As emphasised by CEO Jin during the launch, “We believe Trinidad and Tobago is very important in the Caribbean Region and can be a leader in Smart Education. We want to support the Government’s National Digital Transformation Strategy”.

Since commencing operations the country 15 years ago Huawei has brought not only cutting-edge technology to the people of Trinidad and Tobago; but also training and internships. From its inception in 2016, five (5) cohorts of Trinidad and Tobago’s university ICT students have graduated from the company’s globally-run Seeds of the Future technology training programme.
