Aldwyn Wayne confirmed this morning that WiPay Jamaica, which hosted a Project 1000 competition to get a thousand ecommerce websites online in an hour last Sunday, had surpassed its goal with a successful tally of 1,200 websites.

While Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago participated in the project, only participants from Jamaica are counted toward the world record effort.

The company is awaiting confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records on the achievement. The current record for the same achievement is 500 websites.

In a report carried by the Jamaica Observer, WiShops General Manager Christabelle Brown said,

“We’re thinking about an entire 360 solution. We’ve seen so many people with Instagram businesses and other businesses, and now, especially with the pandemic, they’re thinking about how to get paid online.”

“The pandemic has brought about a major change in how we do business in the Caribbean, and both WiPay and WiShops are working in tandem to ensure that businesses whether micro, small or medium get online.”
