TechCrunch reporter Zack Whittaker published an extensive report on the publication’s engagement with the Jamaican government on data exposure of sensitive information on its traveler tracking software, JAMCOVID.
Whittaker notes that government representatives repeatedly ignored warnings from the website about vulnerabilities and instead sought to portray the warnings as intrusions.
But last month TechCrunch revealed that JamCOVID exposed immigration documents, passport numbers, and COVID-19 lab test results on close to half a million travelers — including many Americans — who visited the island over the past year.
Amber Group had set the access to the JamCOVID cloud server to public, allowing anyone to access its data from their web browser.
