This is the fourth major UI change to TechNewsTT since it was established in 2014. WordPress, for those who are not familiar with how it works, is made up of a database back-end, which users never see and the user interface (UI) which defines how the information is presented.
Making a UI change while a website is running is like changing a wheel on a car while it’s moving. Errors and glitches will happen, so it’s something that gets avoided for as long as possible. At this point, my technical consultant pointed out that the patches and fixes I’m applying to the existing theme are creating unnecessary vulnerabilities, so a change at this point, before things become more problematic, seems sensible.
Which is all a very long way to say that you may experience issues with the site and individual posts over the next two days.
I’ve chosen a long weekend in Trinidad and Tobago to do this, on the assumption that much of what has been posted has been seen (though we have a considerable long-tail audience) and in the hope that the next formal posting update, scheduled for Monday (July 22, 2026), will be in time for a smoothing of most issues.
Having changed themes on this site three times before and on others that I oversee another six times, I can assure you that is hopeful thinking.
Be assured that an inaccessible or unreadable or even a slightly janky website is not something I intend to tolerate for very long. Thank you for your patience.
