Huawei launches Spark program for Latin America, Caribbean

1 Mins read

Huawei officially launched its Spark program in Latin America and the Caribbean last week, aiming to recruit 139 technology startups within next year.

Each start-up partner can receive coupons worth up to 100,000 USD for Huawei Cloud per year, and technical and go-to-market support, Huawei Cloud said at the Huawei Cloud Spark Forum on Wednesday.

The forum gathers players from tech startups and various industries in the region for a discussion on the social value of the startup ecosystem and how startups can promote technological and ecosystem innovation, to contribute to local communities and drive socioeconomic development.

Joaquín Saldana, director of strategy marketing at Huawei Latin America, introduced the purpose and rules of the Spark Program in the region. The candidate startups will be classified based on four different tiers, a system in which the benefits will increase as the tier goes higher.

In recent years, Latin America has produced a growing number of startups backed by regional and global tech investors. The Latin American startups ecosystem is expected to reach $2 trillion by 2030.

Marcus Dantus, the CEO and founder of Startup Mexico, said at the event that the Spark Program will help drive the business and economic growth related to tech entrepreneurship.

Ángeles Toledo and Fernando Thompson, business and technology experts, also encouraged potential candidates to tap in the funding and technical support offered by the program.

Some of the startups shared their experience at the event. Scantist said it had an increase from 16% to 40% in terms of closing deals thanks to its participation in the program.

For Meddi, the program offers a good opportunity for growth, not only in terms of cloud services, but also improving the efficiency of its key processes. Also, it has the benefits of helping reduce the costs for the startups, helping them achieve their mission to offer accessible services.

Learny, another tech startup, has gained not only free cloud resources, but also technological and go-to-market support from the program, which far exceeded their expectations.

Huawei Spark is a hybrid accelerator program officially launched in 2020 globally. It is founded by Huawei Cloud Business Unit and underpinned by Huawei technological and innovation leadership. The purpose is to incubate and accelerate tech startups growth for a fully connected, intelligent world, as a partner.
