At a glittering awards ceremony in London on 30th October, Digicel will line up alongside the leading lights of the global communications industry at the 21st staging of the prestigious World Communications Awards having been shortlisted four times across three categories.
As well as its Digicel Dominica CEO, Nikima Royer Jno Baptiste, being shortlisted in the Women in Telecoms category for her phenomenal work and leadership in the aftermath of the devastating category five Hurricane Maria which ravaged the island of Dominica in 2017.
Digicel also scored a shortlisting in the Best Operator in an Emerging Market category for its work to connect the unconnected in Papua New Guinea – and is shortlisted twice in the Social Contribution category both for its groundbreaking Mon Cash mobile money programme in Haiti and its education project work through the Digicel Foundation in Papua New Guinea.
Commenting on the raft of nominations, Digicel Group CEO, Jean-Yves Charlier, said; “All across the globe, the phenomenal people who make up the Digicel family are doing amazing and transformational work to bring the benefits of digital connectivity to as many people as possible.”
“Equally important to us are our efforts to help create a world where no one gets left behind through our Foundation work. So it’s fantastic and so motivational to have our efforts recognised by the expert judging panel of the World Communications Awards. We would like to thank them most sincerely and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the big night.”
