1 Mins read

On Wednesday 9th November, the Minister of Works and Transport, Senator the Honourable, Rohan Sinanan launched the Ministry’s Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Programme,  a hotline system for reporting broken infrastructure via text messages, or the Ministry’s website under the rubric “Improve your Drive.”

This project seeks to bring the Ministry closer to the people by improving the lives of citizens and providing relief to those who currently suffer tremendous inconveniences because of dilapidated or non – existent infrastructure. By the simple click of a button, citizens can voice their concerns and expect action.

One key element of this programme is the establishment of the Ministry’s “Issues Management Hotline” where citizens are invited to upload pictures of issues such as landslips, caving roadways, or potholes, along with a location and contact information. Issues can also be reported by calling the hotline number 623-MEND (623-6363). Text messages can be sent to 777-2824.

To support this initiative, the Minister unveiled a fleet of 10 vehicles which will traverse the country mending potholes on the major highways and roads that fall under the purview of the Ministry. The fleet of vehicles includes two Pro Patch Pothole Patcher units which will ensure that the road rehabilitation process is a much faster one, and will improve the quality of patching in terms of labour, equipment, tools and production cost.
The Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Programme accepts reports on potholes, defective traffic lights, drainage issues, landslips and defective bridges which its responsibility for repair.
The Ministry’s website has added the reporting form to its sidebar on every page with instructions on how to file a complaint.
Most information on infrastructure failure alerts along with the form for submitting reports can be found here.
