In a major business reorganisation, Microsoft announced yesterday that among other changes, Stephen Elop, head of its devices division, would be retiring from the company.
In July 2014, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella cut more than 18,000 employees from the company, the majority of which were former Nokia staffers.
The company made no announcements regarding the troubled Lumia line of smartphones and in 2016, Nokia’s exclusivity deal with Microsoft will expire and the company is expected to field a smartphone under that brand name.
Mr Elop’s career with both Nokia and Microsoft has been troubled and the blog Communities Dominate Brands had a lot to say about his departure as well as offering a detailed examination of the impact of his tenure at Nokia.
